There is a flea market held in a local parking garage on the 1st Saturday of every month during the spring and possibly summer here. I've known about it forever, but have never gone.
My daughter and I decided to go today. We got there rather late with not much time to look. I told her that we'd walk through quickly first to see if we found any doll things and then we'd have a closer look if we had time.
In the first 5 minutes we came across a 60's or 70's Olympic Manual Typewriter. She's been dying to have a typewriter since she got Kit two years ago. We bought that for $10.00 and it works beautifully. My daughter even typed her book report on it this afternoon. I'll have to explain to her teacher.
Right after that we saw a vendor who had several beat up dolls lying on the ground on a blanket. I saw a familiar looking body as we were walking toward the vendor. Sure enough, it was Samantha! She's PM and very dirty. Her hair was braided in small braids all over her head and cut in some places. The poor thing only had on one shoe.
I told my daughter to remain calm and I approached the vendor and asked him the price. $5.00!! My daughter was beside herself. She commented how she thought we'd never find any of the great finds that she's seen posted on the board.
We brought poor Samantha home, took some "before" pictures and started to clean her up a bit. Her limbs and face were very dirty, but the dirt came off without a problem. Her body is in great shape and the strings are uncut. Her hair is a different story. We unbraided some of it, but will have to continue tomorrow.
She's been cleaned up, dressed in Kit's PJs and is sound asleep beside my daughter (also sound alsleep) in her bed.
Here's the album with the before pictures. We'll add more as we progress with her transformation. http://www.imagestation.com/album/pi...?id=2107786971

Ooo, what fun for your daughter! It has been a long time since I saw a treasure at a flea market. But I remember thinking "stay calm, act calm, don't show your interest" as my heart pounded and I walked up to the vendor. Yay for your daughter! A $5.00 Samantha is a treat no matter what the condition.

I am sure Samantha is very happy to have a loving bath and a warm bed. Happy days ahead.
